Summary
Ashok Vadal has become the most dangerous kind of outlaw: one who still believes in duty. The Law has cast him out, the noble houses want him dead, and the casteless look to him with a hope he does not understand. His black sword has chosen a new purpose for him, and that purpose is Thera—the prophet whose words can unite the lowest of the world into something the empire cannot ignore. But Thera has been taken by the House of Assassins, a power that does not fear caste, crown, or battlefield honor. To reach her, Ashok must walk into a den of killers where strength alone is not enough and every alliance is sharpened on betrayal. Around him gather rebels, fanatics, survivors, and enemies with their own reasons to see the old order bleed. Ashok was made to enforce the Law. Now he must decide what remains of a warrior when obedience is gone and only a promise is left.
