Summary
Leo Graf is a ship’s engineer who believes in doing right by the people who trust him. When he crosses paths with the quaddies—four-armed humans engineered to thrive in zero-G and long enslaved as disposable labor—his life tilts into a collision course with a moral and practical impossible. Drawn into the quaddies’ desperate bid for autonomy, Leo becomes an unlikely ally as they plot escape, survival, and the chance to build a place of their own. The story follows the tense, intimate work of learning to be family and nation at once. As Leo helps the quaddies master systems, craft tools, and imagine a floating hideaway beyond the reach of predatory employers, the narrative balances technical ingenuity with fierce personal stakes. Loyalties are tested, identities reshaped, and a fragile community is forged amid zero-G dangers and ruthless pursuit. Falling Free is a portrait of courage and the cost of freedom, told through characters who must invent both a habitat and a future.
