Summary

Miles and Aisling move through a world shaped by ancient designs and human stubbornness. Miles, a grieving engineer, inherits a ruined machine and with it a mission: to stitch scattered technologies and communities back into a functioning whole. His work draws him to Aisling, a healer with secret ties to the machine's origins, and together they must coax a fragile settlement toward coherence while resisting factions that profit from disorder.\n\nAs the machine begins to hum, it forces confessions and memories to surface, binding citizens in unexpected ways. Personal loyalties fracture as the promise of stability demands sacrifice; Miles must decide whether the cost of order is worth the human bonds it will remake. The story threads intimate family losses into the social rebuilding, making each victory and failure feel like a private reckoning.
