Sky Horses
Summary
Mira grips the reins as Cloudlight, a mare with wings of rain-silver, tests the edge of the wind high above the orchard. The earth loosens beneath the horses’ hooves, and Mira realizes the sky is listening in a way the ground never did. The Royal Foal’s birth has unsettled the village horses, and strange storms pull at the ribbons of tethered clouds above the hills. Mira’s family speaks in quiet kindness, but it is Mira’s stubborn belief that courage can be learned from fear that keeps her in the saddle. When a whispering tree on the edge of the forest begins to shed its leaves in mirrored patterns, Mira must choose between returning to a safer life or chasing a danger that promises answers—if she is brave enough to ride toward it, together with a circle of trusted friends, through thunder and rumor, toward a dawn that could change everything.
Sky Horses sits within Linda Chapman's broader repertoire of warm, accessible fantasy for younger readers, balancing gentle mythmaking with real stakes. Critics have noted its approachable magic and strong, character-driven moments that encourage curiosity and courage in-child readers. While not widely reviewed in major outlets, the series is celebrated for its inviting voice and the way it grounds wonder in everyday friendship and family dynamics.
